Should I go to a university or 2-year-school?

That is a very personal question and it's really up to. There are benefits to both, depending on your goals.

People choose a 4-year-school to receive a bachelor degree. Going to a university will facilitate knowledge in a variety of areas in the area you're interested in, plus, you will have to get the "basics" or math, English, science, etc. Which, why wouldn't you want to expand your mind? People have more comfort knowing they have a bachelor degree, because they can often switch careers easier by having one.

People choose a 2-year-school to receive a diploma because it's a much faster, intense program.

They are both a great education, you may just get more learning opportunities in a 4-year-school than you would in a 2-year program. Design agencies don't care what you have, as long as you have one of these. What it ultimately comes down to is your personality, attitude, portfolio and your true talent.

In conclusion, it is rare, but possible, to become a successful graphic designer with specialized training -- it really happens by being at the right place, right time and having the tenacity to want to learn. But for most people, attending a school and earning a graphic design degree is the only way to go. When you get into a good graphic design program, you are getting the foundation you need to set good habits in becoming a graphic designer.

Which program did you go through? Why did you make that decision? Post your comments by selecting the "comments" link below.
